How to Declutter Your Room
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
You'll need a couple of materials to get started: garbage bags for your trash, various-sized boxes for both small and large items, laundry baskets for the clothes on the floor, and more. Consider cleaning your room while you're at it, so you can have a productive cleaning day!

Step 2: Break Down Your Space into Different Areas
When you look at the room entirely, it may look intimidating to have to sort out through all your items. Break down each area of your room to concentrate on cleaning one space at a time. Separate your vanity cleaning from your closet cleaning, and you can choose to clean the different areas throughout the week instead of all in one day.
Step 3: Label Your Boxes for Storage Space
It is a good idea to label your boxes first before you get started. Use different colored memo notes to color code each box to its designated area so you can quickly identify which item goes into which box. Use smaller boxes for small items like the trinkets on your vanity or bedside table, and use larger boxes to have enough space for bigger items.
Step 4: Make an Available Space
Find an empty space you can dump out your items, and sort them by hand. Clean up your bed first, or clear a section of the floor to make decluttering easier for you. Use a blanket or mattress cover to line the floors so you don't dirty your clean clothes, or use a foldable table to get extra space that is clutter-free.
Step 5: Sort Out Your Items per Area
Prioritize cleaning the floor first. Clear the clothes off the floor, and place them in the laundry basket. Discard pieces of trash, food wrappers, crumpled papers, and any other garbage you find on the floors. This will give you a clear space to work with as you declutter the rest of your items.
Next, go with smaller areas: night stand, vanity, dresser, and other areas with small items. Sort through the items you want to keep on hand, and store any items that are not essential. Stick to the basics when deciding to keep items, it will help you keep a minimalist look for your room.
For larger items, like clothes and furniture, check whether you still want to keep them, or if you want to discard them. Step 7: Clean Your Room
Since you're clearing your room, it is a good idea to clean it as well. Do a good vacuuming of your floors, especially if they are carpeted as they can catch the dirt and debris from your decluttering. Line built-in drawers with new liners, and wipe down surfaces with your cleaning solution and soft cloth. Dust any items that need dusting.
